Calyx campanulatus, 5-dentatus, demùm, augescenti baccâ, rumpens,
costis 5 elevatis bine 5-angularis : dentibus conduplicatis, acuminatis, re-
curvis, subæqualibus. Corolla tubulosa, ringens ; fauc e plicis 2, elevatis,
barbatis : limbo 5-loba, bilabiata : hU s subrotundis, margine revolutis,
æstivatione imbricatis. Stamina 4, didynama, fertilia ; duo superiora breviora
! filamenta glabra, subarcuata, infernè corollæ tubo connata ; anthe-
rarum lobis divaricatis, connectivo hemisphærico insertis, suturò longitudinali
dehiscentibus. Pollen farinaceum. Ovarium biloculare. Stylus filiformis,
glaber. Stigma bilamelloso-partitum : lobis ovatis, leviter acuminatis,
undulatis, suprà copiosè minutèque papillosis. Bacca subrotunda,
spongiosa, succulenta, bilocularis, indehiscens (deliquesoens ?) polysperma,
basi styli remanenti mucronulata. Placentee 2, magnæ, succulenta, septo
(facie cauli opposità) contrario infixæ, marginibus revolutis. Semina unica
serie creberrima, nec cumulata, ovali-oblonga, fulvescentia : testa subcrus-
tacea, extùs reticulato-rugosa, vix scrobiculata ; chalazà etumbilico (punctis
prominulis) nigricantibus, consimilibus : albumen copiosum, carnosum.
Embryo erectus. Badicula vaga.
Herba erecta, ramosa, glabra, virens, cubitalis v. tripedalis. Radix
fibrosa, annua ? Caulis et rami quadrangulares, angulis acutis, alatis. Eolia
apposita, amplexicaulia, lanceolata, acuminata, arguti serrata, membranacea,
suprà leviter rugoso-venosa, subtùs varicosa, p allidiora, inferni angus-
tata, margine basin versus revoluta, ac integerrima, subinde, basibusauricu-
latis approximatis subperfoliata, palmaria v. spitliamcea, nunc dodrantalia.
Flores axillares, cymosi. Cymæ plerumque bis trifidoe, multifloræ, rarò tri-
fio ræ , flore intermedio semper solitario, coeteris ternis septennatisve. Pedunculi
4-angulares, fo liis plurimùm (ò-plò) breviores. Bracteolæ SMÙMÌate, ad-
pressce, glabrce. Corolla sulplmrea, vix nneialis. Bacca alba, symphori-
carpo racemoso magnitudine et colore adsimilis, sapore amaro et dulci nauseabunda.
