P lan ta herbácea, virens, diffusé ramosissima, dumosa, setulis adpressis
parcè instructa, asperiuscula. Rami triquetii, e foliorum basibus decurren-
tibus subalati. Folia alterna, petiolata, profundé siuuato-pinnatifida, sub-
stantiá crassiusculâ subcarnosa, utrinque viridia, sesqui v. tripollicaria ;
segmentis oblongis, mucronulatis, integerrimis, v. dente uno alterove majori
instructis. P e tio li breves, alati, basi decurrentes. Flores terminales,
paniculati, sæpè prodeunte ramulo laterales. Panicula cymosa, bis v. ter
dichotoma, copiosiús setulosa. P edicelli filiformes, scabri, purpurascentes.
Calyx 5-partitus : segmentis ligulatis, obtusiusculis, subcarnosis, scabris,
recurvato-patentibus. CoroZ/a calyce multò major, violacea, rotata, 5-loba,
6-plicata, extùs puberula : ZoZiZssemi-ovatis, acutis. Stamina b; filamenta
brevissima, crassa, alba, basi connata ! antheræ filamentis longiores, erectæ,

This showy speciesof Solanian is a native of Chile, whence
it was introduced last year, from seeds, by Mr. Hugh Cuming ;
and, although we have noticed the plant in various collections,
Mr. Lambert’s appears to be the only one in which it
