D e s c r i p t io n . e-p'HIS feems only a variety o f the former, or a young bird. It
is faid merely to be o f a green, fulvous, blue, and afh-co-
lour throughout : the tail feathers the fame as in the other.

THIS genus has a great bending bill, with frequently a large
protuberance, refembling another bill, on the upper mandible
: edges jagged.
Noftrils fmall, round, placed behind the bafe of the bill.

Legs fcaly: toes, three forward, one backward j the middle
one connected to the outmoft as far as the third joint, and to the
inner one as far as the firft.
The birds of this genus feem to hold the fame place in the old
continent as the Toucans do in the new, the laft-named birds being
found in America only. Perhaps the fame food may be ufual
to both; if fo, fruits fhould be the greateft part of their diet.
As to their eating fifh f , it feems not to be fully proved, though
many authors aflert it: this muft be determined by future obfer-
