D e s c r i p t io n . RT’HIS is one third lefs than the Guinea Sparrow. Bill grey :
general colour of the plumage green ; beneath paler ; back,
wings, and tail, deepeft : top of the head blue : on the lower
part of the neck, or rather on the breaft, is a red oval fpot : on
the hind part of the neck, near the back, is a tranfverfe yellow

ftripe: upper tail coverts red : legs grey.
Edwards * fays, this bird came from Sumatra ; and, according
to Sonnerat, it is likewife in Luçonia. As to its being a native of
Peru, as mentioned in the PI. enl. Buffon gives no credit, as
he does not believe it to be in America. Briffen’s bird is wholly
green, except the top of the head, which is blue, and the tail coverts
red : bill and legs whitiih.

;and, like that, is very fond of the frefh juice of the cocoa-tree,

In Sir A. Lever’s eolleSlisn there are two birds, which I take to
be male and female of this fpecies: the one anfwers to the defcription
above, but the yellow on the back part of the neck is
fcarce vifible: the tail itfelf is green, but the upper tail coverts
are crimfon, and as long as the tail itfelf^ or very nearlyfo as, at
a diftance, the whole tail appears o f this colour', the colour between
the legs to the vent is of a very light green: quills dufky,
the outer edge green.
The other bird is moftly green : on the throat is a yellow
fp ot: the tail and its coverts exactly the fame as in the laft; bill
and legs pale.
OJbeck-f met with- this bird at Java, where the natives call
it Parkicki. “ I f this is put in a cage, it whiffles Very fd-
dom, and commonly grows quite fullen: it hangs itfelf with its
feet fo, that the back is turned towards the earth, and feldom
changes this fttuation : it is fed with boiled rice; in which manner,
in the year 17 5 a, one was brought to Gottenburgh.”
Toreeti obfcrves, that feme of them\ have a blue fpot on the
head; but the general colour dark green on the back, and light
green under the belly: the upper frde of the tail and the throat
red : the bill black. " We obferved that their nefts were re-
