Gen. Char. Male, scattered warts.
Female, smooth shields or tubercles, in which the
seeds are imbedded.
Spec. Char. Leathery ; ash-coloured and even above;
whitish, smooth, with indistinct pale veins beneath.
Shields anterior, ascending, roundish, dark reddish
brown.

I t is m o st n e arly related to L. venosiis, t. 887, b u t differs
in several p a rticu la rs from th a t species. T h e fro n d s are m ore
o b lo n g th an r o u n d ; th e ir up p e r surface greyish or a sh -co lo u re d ,
w h e n y o u n g an d m o ist a ssum in g more or less o f a glaucous
g re en h u e , b u t never a grass gre en . B en ea th th ey are o f a
p a le b row n ish w h ite , de stitute o f fibres o r radicles, b u t
m a rk ed w ith lo n g itu d in a l veins a lm o st o f th e same co lo u r, an d
p ro je c tin g very little from the surface. T h e shields are sessile
o n th e surface o f elongated p o rtio n s o f th e fro n d , ro u n d ish ,
e llip tic a l, or k id n ey -sh ap e d , o f a da rk red d ish b row n , m ore
