 The great  black  and white  Gull.

 IT   was the higgeft  o f  all  the  Gulls I  have  yet  ieen;  it  
 weighed  four  Pounds  and  ten  Ounces;  its  length  from  
 the  tip  o f  the  Bill  to  the  end  o f  the  Tail  was  twenty  fix  
 Inches;  its  breadth  from  tip  to  tip  o f the Wings  diftended  
 fixty  fix  Inches;  its  Bill  was  orange  Colour,  comprefled  
 fideways  more  than  three  Inches  long,  ibmething  hooked  
 at  the  end,  the  lower Mandible  underneath  bunched  out  
 into  a  Knob  very  red,  the Noftrils  oblong. 
 T h e  Irides of the Eyes are of a beautiful red,  both Head,  
 Neck,  Breaft,  Belly  and Tail are white;  the middle  o f the  
 Back  and  the Wings  are  black,  the  tips  o f  the  Quill  and  
 covert Feathers white. 
 The  Tail  was  fix  Inches long,  made up  o f twelve  Snow  
 white  Feathers;  its  Legs  and  Feet  were  fieih  Colour  die  
 Claws  black;  it  had  a  imall  Back-toe,  a  wide Mouth,  a  
 long Tongue,  and  a  large  Gullet;  it  preys  upon  Filhes,  
 out  o f  the Stomach  of one  difledted  was  taken  a  Plaiie  in-  
 tire.  If had a great  Liver  divided  into two Lobes  with  a  
 Gall  adhering;  ihort  and  finall  blind  Guts;  a  mufculous  
 Stomach,  and an oblong Spleen.
