SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH with creftcd tips, within the bloffoni;
which is purple, between bell and pitcher fhaped,
flat at the bale ; foot-fbtlks very long; flowers
grow in umbels at the end of the branches,
point all one way and hang down; leaver
grow by fours, are blunt and very fmooth.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM fhrubbv, upright, grows a foot high ;
branches nearly Ample, twiggy and threadthaped.
LEAVES grow by fours, linear, blunt, almotl
three-tided, ihickifh, very fhort fool-iialks, which
are pretfed to the fteiu.
FLOWERS grow in umbels, at the end of the
larger and linaUcr branches, nodding, all pointing
one way, and are purple; foot-italks thrice
the length of the flowers, coloured, and three
fmall floral leaves upon them.
EMPALEMKNT. Cup four-leaved, leaflets
fmall, prefled to the bloffom, fringed and awllhapcd.
BLOSSOM approaching to bell-fli3pc; the
lower part flat, and purple; the tegmenta of the
border are blunt and rather upright.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads, turned inwards
at the upper part. Tips creftcd, deep
purple, and within the bloflbm.
POINT AL. Seed-bud turban-fhaped, furrowed,
glandular at the bale. Shaft longer than the
chives, without the bloffom. Summit fourcornered
and grecniih.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from Auguft, till December.
