SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with beardlefs tips, within die bloffom,
which are nearly cylindrical, clammy, molt beautiful,
and three-coloured; the leaves grow moftly
by fours, and arc entirely covered with long hairs.
DESCRIPTION.
S t em flirubby, upright, grows two feet high,
fimple at the bale, then branching, die branches
nearly upright, and quite covered by the leaves.
Le a v e s grow moftly by fours, oblong, fawed,
clothed with long hairs, fmooth on the upper,
and furrowed on the under part, having very
fhort leaf-Items preffed to the branches.
Fl o w brs are numerous, in tingle whorls, near
the fummit of the branches, bending downward,
and fpreading, the foot-ltalks hairy, with three
fmall leaves fixed on their under part.
Em p a l e m e n t . Cup four-leaved, which arc
lance-fhapcd, hairy, preffed to the bloffom, and
rolled back at the point.
Blossom nearly cylindrical, mining, clammy,
and molt beautifully coloured with red, yellow,
and green, narrow at the mouth, which is divided
into four fegments.
Chives. Eight hair-like threads, the length
of the bloffom, fixed into the receptacle. Tips
beardlefs.

Shaft thrcad-fhaped, rather without the
bloffom. Summit four-cornered.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from Auguii till December.
