S P E C I F I C CHARACTER.
Hea h i , whofe tips are bearded, and juft within
the blofibm; the leaves grow by fours, the flowers
moflly by threes, and are fmooth, cjdindrically
club-fhapcd, an inch long, and of a deep blood
colour.
D E S C R I P T I O N .
St em fhrubby, grows two feet high, and upright;
the branches grow upright, having many
fmaller branches, which arc thick fct, and very
fhort.
The L e a v e s grow by fours, arc linear, fmooth,
mining, and of a deep green, having very fhort
foot-fialks, prefTcd to the ftem.
The F l o w e r s terminate the fhortcr branches
near the fummit of the Item, forming as it were
a long bunch; the foot-lralks are long, having
three floral leaves at their bafe.
Em p a l e m e n t . Cup four-leaved, which arc
lance-fhapcd, fawed, and preffed to thcbloffom.
The Blossom is cylindrically club - fhaped,
fmooth, blood colour, and an inch long; the
fegmcnts of the mouth are obtufe, and flraight.
Chives. Eight hair-like threads, fixed into
the receptacle; the tips are bearded, and juit
within the bloffom.
