SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEA TH, with crefled tips, within the bloffoms,
which grow in bunches, at the end of the branches,
and arc of a livid purple colour; the foot-fialks
very long; the rloral leaves are egg-fhaped, and
vciy large; leaves grow by threes, are linear,
fleflry, and of a fca-grecn colour.
STEM upright, brittle, grows a foot and a half
high; the branches grow upright, with few fmaller
branches, and long.
LEAVES grow by threes, are linear, pointed,
threading, furrowed, linoolh, ileuYy, and ofa feagrecn
colour; the foot-ftalks prefied to the Item.
FLOWERS terminate the branches in bunches,
and grow nodding; the foot-ftalks are very long,
and coloured, having three coloured, egg-fhaped,
concave, floral leaves.
EMPALEMENT. Cup of four leaves, which
are egg-fhaped, coloured, and rcflexed.
BLOSSOM, nearly conical, of a dark purple,
narrowed at the mouth; the fegments reflexed,
and tapered.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads, fixed into
the receptacle. Tips crefted, gouty at the bafe,
and within the bloffom.
POINTAL. Seed-bud nearly globular, and
furrowed. Shaft within the bloffom, and cylinder
fhaped. Summit lhield-fhaped.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
