cylindrical, ribbed, and varioufly c o l o u r e d ; leaves
g r o w b y threes.
DESCRIPTION.
S t e m fhrubby, grows t w o feet h i g h , erect, tap
e r i n g t o the t o p ; t h e branches are nearly fimple.
L e a v e s grow by threes, linear, awl-fhapcd,
flat o n t h e upper, and furrowed on t h e under
lurface, fmooth, and o f a d e e p green; with very
fhort foot-ftalks prcfl'ed to t h e branches.
T h e F l o w e r s are n u m e r o u s , bending a little
downward, terminating the final! branches by
threes or fours, near the t o p o f the f l e m ; t he
foot-fialks being very fhort.
E m p a l e m e n t . The c u p i s d o u b l e , the inner
is four-leaved, w h i c h are orange-coloured, furrowed
at t h e p o i n t , and prefTed to the b l o f f o m;
the outer is three-leaved, fhortcr than the inner,
and greenifh at t h e p o i n t s .
T h e B L o s s o M is nearly cylindrical, a little narrowed
at t h e middle, ribbed, the l o w e r part orange
colour, the m o u t h greenifh, whofe fegments are
reflexed.
C h i v e s . Eight threads, w h o f e lower parts are
fpatula-fhaped, and upper linear, fixed into t he
receptacle. Tips beardlefs, and almoft within t he
blofibm.
