D E S C R I P T I O N .
STEM flexible, thrcad-fhaped, and flendcr,
branching to the b o t t o m ; the branches crowded
together.
T h e LEAVES grow oppolite in pairs, are linear,
preffed to the item, three-lided, concave on the
upper, and keel-fhaped on the under furface,
furrowed, and mining; having very ihort leafftems
preffed to the branches.
F L O W E R S are numerous, clofe together, and
nearly terminating the branches; the foot-fialks are
hair-like, and yellow, having t w o floral leaves.
E M P A L E M E N T . Cup four-leaved, which are
oval, pointed, yellow, and fmooth.
T h e B L O S S O M yellow, of a pointed oval fhape,
comprefTed at the mouth; having a flightly reflexed,
four-lobed border.
C H I V E S . Eight hair-like threads, half the
l e n g t h of the blofTom, bent back at the point,
and fixed into the receptacle. Tips beardlefs,
w i d i i n the bloffom, and fmall.
POINTAL. Sccd-vcfiel cylindrical, and furrowed.
Shaft threacl-ihapcd, purple, and twice
•as long as the chives. Summit four-cornered.
Native of the Cape of G o o d Hope.
Flowers from September, till May.
