SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, w i th bearded tips, jutt within the blotfoms,
w h i c h are pitchcr-fliuped, and w h i t e ; the
leaves grow by threes, of a broad cgg-fliape,
downy, and white underneath.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM upright, lhrubby, grows a foot high, and
very branching; the fmallcr branches are numerous,
and grow in whorls.
T h e LEAVES g r ow by threes, threading outward,
of a broad egg-fhape, rolled back at the
edges, and white beneath, having fhort foot-ftalks
preffed to t h e branches.
T h e FLOWERS terminate the branches in
bunches which hang downward; the foot-iialks
arc long, having three floral leaves.
EMPALEMENT. Cup four-leaved, which arc
fpathula-fhapcd, or tapering to the bafe, the tops
egg-fhaped, concave, and lathed.
The BLOSSOM white, pitcher-fhaped, having
the fegments of the mouth llightly bent back.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads. T i p s bearded,
jmt within the bloflbm.
POINTAL. Seed-veffel cylinder-fhaped, and
furrowed. Shaft thread-fhaped. Summit fourcomercd.
Native of the Cape o f G o o d Hope.
Flowers from April, till July.
