DESCRIPTIO.
CAULIS laxus, ereótus, fcabcr, quatuor vel
quinqué pedalis; rarai laxi, fimplices, longi.
FOLIA fena, rígida, obtus, fubtus fulcata, linearía,
craffa, petiolis adprefíis.
FLORES in ramulis mediis verticidad, fpicam
formantes, pedunculis brevibus, bracteis tribus
ad bafin cal y eis infl.ru.ct is.
CALYX. Perianthium tetrapbyllum, foliolis
fubulatis, concavis, longitudinc pcdunculi.
COROLLA fub-pollicaria, quadrate, coffata, luteo
aurantia, laciniis dentatis, rcflexis.
STAMINA. Filamente octo capillaria, receptáculo
inferta ; andiene muticoe, fubincluiíE.
PISTILLUM. Germen cylindricum, fulcatum;

SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH w i th beardlefs tips, within the blofibms,
which are ribbed, four-fided, not quite an inch
long, and o f a yellowim-orange colour; grows
four, or five feet high ; the leaves grow by fixes,
are large, and luff.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM fupple, upright and rough, four or five
feet h i g h ; the branches are loofe, fimple and long.
LEAVES g r ow by fixes, arc harfh, blunt, furrowed
underneath, linear, and thick, having the
foot-ffalks prcfled to the flem.
FLOWERS g r ow in whorls, about the middle of
the fmaller branches, forming a fpikc, with ihort
foot-ftalks, w i t h three floral leaves clofe t o the
cup.
EMPALEMENT. Cup four-leaved, which arc
awd-fhaped, concave, and the length o f the footftalk.
BLOSSOM near an inch l o n g , four-fided,ribbed,
of a yellowifh-orange colour; the tegmenta of
die inouth are notched, and l>ent backward.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads, fixed into
the receptacle; the tips beardlefs, and juif. within
the blolfom.
POINTAL. Seed-vcffel cylindrical, and furrowed;
Shaft thread-fhaped, and without the
