CAULIS fub-pcdalis, ercctus, robuftus; rami

FLORES in medio ramorum ex axillis foliorum
verticillati, folitarii; pedunculi longiilimi, bracteia
minutis, remotis.
CALYX. Ferianthium tctrapbyllum, foliolis
glabris, carinads, ovatis, acutis, coloratis, adpreffis.
COROLLA fub-cylindrica, fub-truncata, glabra,
atro-purpurca; laciniis lhnbi obtuiis, obfoletis,
viridibus, eredtis.
STAMINA. Filamcnta oito, plana, longitudine
corolla;. Antherse muticas, exferue, filamentorum
longitudine, attenuata in filamcnta.

SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HE ATH with beardlefs tips, very long, and without
the bloifom; flowers grow fobtary, hanging
down, with the floral leaves at a distance; bloifom
nearly cylindrical, appearing nearly as if cut
off at the mouth, of a deep purple; the fegments
of the mouth are fmall, and upright; the
cups limple ; leaves grow by threes, crowded together,
and turned inwards.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM grows nearly a foot high, upright, and
fturdy; the branches grow in whorls, fpreading;
the fmaller branches are numerous, and nearly
upright.
LEAVES grow by threes, linear, fmooth, bent
like a bow, turned inward, and furrowed beneath;
fcarce any foot-fialks.
FLOWERS grow in the middle of the branches,
from the bale of the leaves in whorls, and fingly;
the foot-ftalks the length of the blofibms, having
very fmall floral leaves at a diftancc from the cup.
EMPALEMKNT. Cup threer leaved, leaflets
fmooth, keeled, egg-ihaped, pointed, coloured,
and preffed to the bloffom.
BLOSSOM nearly cylindrical, appearing almoft
as if cut off at the end, fmooth, and of a deep
purple; the fegments of the border blunt, very
fmall, green, and upright.
CHIVES. Eight flat threads, the length of the
bloifom. Tips beardlefs, without the bloifom,
the length of the threads, and tapered into them.
POINTAL. Seed-bud egg-fhaped, and fmooth.
Shaft thread-fhaped, without the bloffom, and a
little longer than the chives. Summit flightly
four-cornered.

Flowers from the month of June, till November.
