He a t h , with beardlefs tips, juft within the bloffora,
lhaft without; the flowers grow at the end
of blanches in whorls, club-fhaped, curved, and
of a fcarlet colour; the leaves of the cup are
lharp-pointed; the leaves grow by fixes, and arc
turned inwards.
D E S C R I P T I O N .
S t em upright, o f a brownifh afh-colour, growing
a foot high; branches grow in whorls, upright,
and fpreading, feldom branching.
Leaves grow by fixes, turned inwards, lharppointed,
fmooth, and of a bluifh green; the leafflems
preffed to the branches.
F l o w e r s grow in clofe whorls at the top of
the branches; the foot-llalks very Ihort, the floral
leaves appearing like a fecond cup.
Em p a l e m e n t . Cup four-leaved, which are
awl-fhapcd, lkinny at the edgt*, fharp-pointcd,
and kccl-fhaped.
Bl o s s om curved, club-fhaped, downy, and of
a blood colour; the fegments of the mouth am
upright.
Chives. Eight hair-like threads, the length
of the tube. Tips beardlefs, and juft within the
bloflbm.
P o i n t a l . Seed-bud turban-fhaped, and furrowed.
Shaft thread-fhaped, and without the
bloflbm. Summit four-cornered.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
