DESCRIPTIO.
CAULIS fubcrcclus,pedalis ramofiíhmus, rami,
et ramuli, flexuofi, divaricato patente.
FOLIA quaterna, obtnfa, linearía, glabra, fubtusfulcata;
peüolis brcvifiîmis, adprcílís.
FLORES terminales, racemum denle formantes;
pedunculi longiflimi, purpurei, braclcis tribus
infiructi.
CALYX. Perianthium tetrapb}dluin, foliolis
ovatis, carinaüs, acuminatis.
COROLLA fubovata, cemua, carnea, ore contracto,
loev ¡filme quadrifido, laeiniis crectis.
STAMINA. Filamenta octo eapillaria, receptáculo
inlerta. Anthera; criñatae, fub-inclufoe.
PISTILLUM. Germen fubrotundum. Stylus
filiformis, exfertus. Stigma tetragonum.
Habitat ad Capul Bonoe Spei.
Floret a menfi Julii, in Octobrem.

SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with erefted tips, nearly within the
bloffoms, which are almotl egg-ihaped, and
flcfh-coloured; the foot-flalks are very long, and
coloured; the leaves grow by fours.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM nearly upright, a foot high, and very
much branched; the larger and fmaller branches
grow zigzag, and fprcad outward.
LEAVES grow by fours, are blunt, linear,
iinooth, and furrowed underneath; with fhort
foot-ilalks preffed to Uie branches.
The FLOWERS grow at the end of the fmaller
branches, forming a ciofe bunch; the foot-italks
arc very long, and purple, having three floral
leaves.
EMPALEMENT. Cup four-leaved, which are
egg-ihaped, keeled, and pointed.
BLOSSOM nearly egg-ihaped, bending downward,
and flefh-coloured, the mouth contracted,
but flightly cut into four upright fegmcnts.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads, fixed into the
receptacle. Tips erefted, nearly within the bloffom.
POINTAL. Sced-vcffel nearly round. Shaft
thread-ihaped, and without the bloffom. Summit
four-cornered.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from Jul)', till October.
