S P E C I F I C CHARACTER.
HEATH, with bcardlcfs tips within the bloflbin,
which is oblong-egg-fhaped, and bluntly fouredged;
leaves growing by fours.
DESCRIPTION.
ST KM fhrubby, grows a foot and a half high,
cylindrical, tmdivided at the bale, afterwards
branching.
LEAVES growing by fours, linear, pointed,
between upright and fpreading, fmooth and tinning,
of a light green, with fhort leaf-ftems preffed
to the branches.
FLOWERS ycllowifh, fweet-fcentcd, moftly four
together, terminating the branches; having very
fhort footftalks.
EMPALEMENT. Cup double; tite inner one
has four leaves, which are erect, ovate, and kcelfhaped;
the outer has three leaves, and rcfts on
the former.
The BLOSSOM oblong-egg-fhaped, bluntly
four-edged, contracted at the mouth, which is
terminated by a four-lobed border, whole fegments
are equal, and rolled back.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads, nearly of a
length with the puintal, crooked at their upper
part, and fixed in the receptacle. Tips bcardlcfs,
within the bloffom, cleft, and fixed to the
threads at their back.
POINTAL. Seed-velfel inverfely egg-fhaped,
furrowed with eight channels. Shaft linear, erect,
nearly of a length with the blaflum. Summit
nearly four-cornered.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
In bloom from March till July.
