SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with bearded tips, within the blofToms;
which are numerous, on a clofc fpike, nearly terminating
the branches; leaves growing moiily by
fixes.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM fhmbby, growing a foot high, upright,
with numerous, crowded, undivided, and amending
branches.
LEAVES growing moiily by fixes, fharp-pointed,
threading, and fmooth, channelled underneath,
and preffed to the item by fhort foot-ftalks.
FLOWERS numerous, growing nearly at the
end of branches, in hard clofè-fet fpikes; the
lower part of a light yellow, the extremity of a
light green.
EMPALEMENT. Cup permanent, double; the
outer many-leaved,unequal, and fpear-fbaped; the
inner four-leaved, which are yellow, crooked, and
fpatula-fbaped; their upper part hard, inflated,
fharp-pointed, and tending to each other.
BLOSSOM fomcwhat cylindrical, with a tapered
bafc; the mouth blunt, and divided into a fourcleft,
equal border, whofc fegments tend to each
other.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads, nearly- of a
length with the bloflbm, fixed into the receptacle.
Tips bearded, and within the bloflbm.
POJNTAL. Seed-veffel roundifh. Shaft threadfhaped,
and longer than the threads. Summit
four-cornered.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
In bloom from November till April.
