SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, with beardlefs tips, red, and without
the bloflbms, which are fmall, white, almoll bellfhaped;
the floral leaves are white, and referable
die cup; the branches grow zig-zag; the leaves
grow by threes.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM ihrubby, grows rather more than a foot
high, naked beneath, and upright; the branches
grow zig-zagged, and twiggy; the fmaller branches
arc ihort, and grow mollly by threes.
The LEAVES grow by threes, are linear and
fmooth, fharp, furrowed underneath; the footflalks
prefled to the item.
T I i c F l o w e u s terminate the ends of the fmaller
branches, moftly by threes; the foot-ftalks arc of
a downy white; the floral leaves are white, and
placed clofe to the cup.
Em p a l e m e n t . Cup four-leaved, which are
egg-fhaped, pointed, concave, white, and prefled
to the bloflbm.
Bl o s s om fmall, nearly bcll-fhaped, white, and
fmooth; the fegments of the mouth arc prefled
to the threads.
Chives. Eight hair-like threads, bent inwards
at the end. Tips are red, beardlefs, and without
the bloflbm.
P o i n t A l . Seed-veffel nearly round, and furrowed.
Shaft time ad-fh aped, and without the
bloflbm. Summit Ihicld-fhaped.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from April, till July.
