SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEAT H, with tips two-horned at the bafe, nearly
within the bloffoms; fhaft very long; blofToms
almoft bell-fhaped, and purple, having the fegments
of the mouth fprcading, very large, and
e^g-llmpcd; leaves growing moftly by fours, and
blunt ended.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM upright, cylindrical, branching, fhrnbby,
growing a foot high; the larger and fmaller
branches are thread-fhaped, weak, and upright.
LEAVES grow by fours, often by fives, blunt
ended, bent back, and turned inward at the point;
fmooth, fhining, and channelled beneath; footftalks
red, and preffed to the ftem.
The FLOWERS grow near the funimits of the
branches, in bunches, hanging down; having
very long foot-iialks, angled, purple, and two
fmall, coloured leaves on them.
EMPALEMENT. Cup four-leaved, which are
egg-ihaped, tapered, and preffed to the bloffoni,
the points green.
BLOSSOM globularly bell-fhapcd and purple,
the border very large and fpreading; the fegments
egg-fhaped and concave.
CHIVKS. Eight hair-like threads, the length
of the tube, fixed into the receptacle. Tips twocleft,
and two-horned at the bafe.
POINTA'L. Seed-bud nearly globular. Shalt
tbread-fhaped, without the bloifom, twice its
length, and purple. Summit concave, and bordered.
Native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers from April, till July.
