SPECIFIC CHARACTER.
HEATH, w i t h crelted lips, WITHIN the bloflom,
which is b i g - b e l l i e d , oblique mouthed, and purp
l e ; the foot-fialks an: coloured, and very long;
leaves grow alternate, fcattcred, blunt, and thick
w i t h mining, glandular hairs.
DESCRIPTION.
STEM upright, about a (pan high, the larger
and Irnaller branches are thrcad-fhaped, fcattcred,
upright, threading, and twiggy.
T h e LEAVES grow alternate, fcattcred, linear,
blunt, the e nd bent back, and thick with glandular
hairs.
The FLOWERS are terminal, nearly in bunches,
almolt upright; the fool-italks ate thrcad-fhaped,
and twice as l o n g as the leaves; the floral leaves
arc linall, and coloured.
EMFAL1MIFTT Cup four-leaved, which arc
nearly egg-fhaped, clammy, pointed, coloured,
and bent outward at t h e t o p.
The BLOSSOM big-bellied, purple, ribbed, and
downy, with the mouth oblique, narrowed, and
o f a deep blood colour; the fegments are heartihaped,
and !preading.
CHIVES. Eight hair-like threads, which arc
twifted, and fixed into the receptacle. The tips
arc crelted, and w i t h i n the bloffom.
POIKTAL. Sccd-veifel club-fhaped, and furrowed.
Shalt thread-ihaped, and purple. Summit
four-cornered.
