A DINGO, or DOG, of N£W SOUTH WALES.
This animal is a variety o f the Dog, and, like the fhep-
herd’s dogm moft countries, approaches nearta:'theoriginal
of the fpecies, which is the wolf, hut is not fb large, and
does dot ftand fo high on its legs.
The ears are fiiort, and ereft, the tail rather bufhy; the
hair, which is of a reddflh dun eolout, - is long and thick,
but ftrait. It is Capable of barking,: akhaugh not fo rea-
dily as- the European dogl j is very ilj-natufed and vicious,
and fnaMs', howls, and moahsydike ^dogs in eedamok.
Whether this is the only Dog in Nevv South Wales, and
- whether they have it in a wild ftate, is Oot mentioned ; but
I Ihould be inclined to believe they had no other; in which
cafe it will eonftitute the wolf o f that country; and that
which is domefticated is only tfeeivild dog tamed, without
having yet produced a variety, as-in feme parts America.
