Aflif&atoiired Motacilla, yellow beneath.
N.J3, The throat inclipes? a little to whitifh. j
is imij^thaps abfoltiteij whether this bird fhould
be referredI to the genua Motacilla, or Mufcicapa : the probability,
however, as in favbuf pf Motaeilla.
The bird is about the, fize p f the'Motacilla flava o f Linnaeus,
or yellow wagtail, but feems of a ftouter make,
y he beak bilpf? a pale colour, apd the legs 'brown. The
two middle tail-feathers have the very extremities .flightly
marked with white..
: T f c genms Motacilla is extretsefy uumoPOHS, and it is not
eafy to fix upon a proper or expreffive trivial name. Such
feamesdliould, i f poffiMe, convey /fome idea either of the
ehkrnr, m feme -other ckeumftanice relative to pfe, manners
or habits of the animal; but in new fpecies, whofe hiftory
is unknown, this is impracticable. ’ The trivial name, therefore,
of Auftralis may he allowably though it cannot he jre-
garded as fufficiently diftin&ive.
