 g l Z E   of  a MiJJel  Thrujh.  Top  of  the  head  black,  the  feathers  
 edged  with  white  :  over  the  eye  a white  ftreak,  palling  
 to  the hind  head, where  it  is  pretty  broad:  the  hind  part  of  the-  
 n?ck  is  dark  afh-colour ;  the  fore  part  the  fame,  but  paler :  
 lides  of  the  head  and  chin  white,  dotted  with  black:  acrofs  the  
 throat  a  tranfverfe  collar of black :  the  breaft  ferruginous,  with a  
 band  of black;  from  thence  to  the  vent  white :  wings  brown j  
 the  edges  of  fome  of  the  feathers yellowilh :  tail  feathers much  
 the  fame, with  the  ends  black. 
 Place, Inhabits  the  fait  lakes  o f the  Ibuthern  defarts  of 'Tartary,  with,  
 the laft  defcribed.

 D escription, T   E N G T H   ten  inches.  Bill  an  inch  long,  red, with  the  end  
 black:  forehead black.:  crown  the  fame, furrounded  with  a  
 ,  circle of white:  throat  white:  neck  and  breaft  very  light  alh-  
 coloured  brown,  divided  from  the  belly  by  a  dulky  tranfverfe  
 ftroke :  belly  and  vent white:  back,  fcapulars, and wing coverts,  
 cinereous  brown :  primaries  dulky;  towards the bottoms  white :  
 tail  white  at  the  bafe;  black  towards  the  end;  the  tip  white :  
 legs  very  long;  naked  an  inch  above  the knees ;  and  of a  blood  
 red  :  toes very  fhort. 
 Place. Inhabits  the province  of New York.  Has  much  the  habit  of  
 the European Dotterel.

 pale  and  dulky  ftreaks,  and  tranfverfely  mottled  on  the  lides  
 with  narrow lines :  quills  dulky:  legs  blueilh :  claws  black. 
 Description. 
 Inhabits  New  Zealand.  Found  at  Dujky  Bay.  The  name  
 given  it  by  the  natives Hapoho-era.  From  the  colle&ion  of  Sir  
 Jofeph Banks.

 crown  of the head to  the rump,  black ;  the feathers margined with  
 fulvous yellow :  the  forehead  and  throat  dulky  white :  breaft  
 fulvous,  fpotted  With  black:  the  reft  of  the  under  parts  dulky  
 white,  fpotted  with  black :  the  wing  coverts  are  black,  fpotted  
 with  fulvous  ;  the  lower  order  brown  black,  tipped  with  white  :  
 quills  brownilh  black;  the  lhafts  white :  tail  the  fame  colour,

 Description. 
 crofted  with whitilh  bands :  legs  blue  :  claws  black, and  blunt.  
 Inhabits  the  Ihores  and  marlhy  places  of Otaheite.  Communicated  
 by Dr.  Forfter.
