T h i s palace is fituated in a p la in , between tw o v e ry large and lo f t y
m oun ta in s : in form and external appearance it refembles thofe
w è have already d efc rib ed ; but ap p ea rs ' £q* b e • o f modern eréétión-;
and its apartments are fitted u p in a b e tte r fty le than any w e h ad y et
feen. In fom e o f the courts there were artificial- ruins, a favourite oB -'
jè é t in the ornamental gardening o f this country, furrounded w ith
plots o f verdure.
A s the cmbafly n ow approached the termination o f its jou rn e y , and
«was foon to appear before the fovereign, to:- obtain w h o fe favour and
fr ien d fb ip it had traverfed fo large a part o f the glo be , the Am ba fla-
dor g a v e orders fo r rehearfing the proceflion; w ith w h ich w e were to
mak e our appearance at th e imperial court. T h is e v en in g , therefore;
the ceremonial wa s arranged; and performed, under the direction 'o f
L ieutenant-Co lone l Benfon, and approved b y the Amba ffador. T h é
band played the D u k e o f Y o r k 's march during .fh e time W our re-
hearfal.
