Two stales o f this plant are found by Mr. D ou glas : the one, smaller and destitute o f spinous
proeesse.s upon th e stipes ; th e othe r (as now figured), larger, and furnished here and there, on the
stipes, with short spines, which perhaps may be considered as abortive pinnæ.
Th e habit o f the plant, as Dr . Kaulfuss we ll observes, is that o f Pteris argenlea ; and the rich
ye llow dust with which the underside is clothed is common to other plants o f the pre sent genus.
