Much as has been done by the exc e llen t Swartz and other botanists among the Ferns o f Jamaica,
there still appear to be many undescribcd spe cies in that fertile island. Am on g st a considerable
co llec tion that wo have received from our friends and correspondents,' now resident in that island,
particularly Dr s. Banc roft and Macfadycn, Messrs. W ile s, Lunan, and H ig so n , th e present individual
strikes us as an inter esting sp ec ie s, o f w hich wc can find no description.
Th e fronds might with almost equal propriety be called p in n a tijii as pin n a ted , so constantly
decurrcnt arc the bases o f all the pinnæ. The stipes is particularly short, and the whole frond,
above and beneath, is covered by minute glandular hairs, which give a dotted appearance to the
entire surface.
