T he specimens from which our figure and description arc taken o f this plant were received from
the East India Company, with D r .W a llich ’s name o f Cheilanthesfa r in o s a * , from Nepal. Th ey are
therefore in all probability the same as the Ch. dealbata o f D o n ’s P ro d r . FI. A^epal. ; the descriptio
n o f which entirely agrees with oiu‘ plant, excep t that the iiidusiuin is said to be fimbriated,
which is n o t the case in our specimen. W e quite agree w ith Dr. W allich in considering it to be the
same as th e /Egyptian C h .fa r in o s a ; th e figure o f which given by W allich , although stated by
Kaulfuss to be bad, is ye t sufficiently ch|i'acteristic o f our plant. I t is probably n o t an uncommon
species in other parts o f the wor ld; and I sec no reason to separate tho. pulvei-acea o f Presl in
R e liq . Hcmk. from oui‘ species, with which the description sufficiently accords.
Th e iuvolucra arc very small, and soon disappear as th e capsules advance to maturity.
* Since the above was vrritten, we find this plant marked as No. 65. of Dr. Wallich's printed list of the Ferns of his princely
collection, and as " C. dealbata W all., Ch.farinosa Wallich (hand Kaulf.) Herb. 1823.” And the following stations are given ;
" 1. Nepalia, 1820 5 2. Proma, Irawaddy, 1826 ; 3. Pundooal (De Silva) ; 4. vav. uesiiiir, ad Mareko, Nepaliæ, 1823.”—We
shall render our synonyms and stations, of East India Ferns especially, more complete in an Appendix to our work.
