horizontalibus, oblongis, magis minusve attenuatis, rigidis, supra nitidis, subtus opacis atque pallidis ;
p in n u lis obovato-cuneatis, obtusis, striatis, glabris, basi decurrentibus in rachidera alatam, apice inoequaliter
dentatis, non raro sursum auriculatis, superioribus confluentibus. R a ch is universalis subpilosa, inferne
nigrescens.
S o ri lineares, elongati, 4— 6 in singula pinnula.
Capsidæ lon ge pedicellatæ, lato-annulatæ.

The specimen here figured, sent to us from the Mauritius by Professor Bojer, perhaps gives as
fair an idea o f tlie more usual state o f Asp len ium cuneatum as any, we could have selected. B u t at
the same time wc must observe that it is subject to much variation in the size and the form o f the
pinnæ and pinnulæ. That which wc have from Sicber as A . cuneatum, (the N o . “ 1 o f h is S yn o p sis
Filicum , from the Mauritius also,) we are almost tempted to consider a distinct species ; its lower
pinnules are deeply bipartite, lik e the piimæ o f A . hipartitum o f Willdenow. W ith this latter
author wc agree in considering the W e st Indian and Mauritius specimens to be identical. W e
p o sse ss it from the island o f St. Vincent, gathered by the Rev. L, Guilding, and from Guiana bv
