Caulis repens, crassiusculus, foliosus; ram is erectis spithamæis ad pedalem, basi, mine etiam ad apicem, dichotome
divisjs una cum foliis cylindraccis, crassis. F o lia numerosa, arctissiine imbricata, undique inserta, erecta,
sen subspiraliter inclinata, lineari-lanceolata, sensim acuminata, coriacea, nitida, glaberrima; dorso convexo,
VIX co sta to ; intus plana, sub lente minute lepidota, marginibus pallidis fere cartilagineis, obscure crenulatis.
Color in nostris exemplaribus flavo-viridis.
Capsulæ reuiformes, flavoe, axillares, bivalves, granulis minutis flavis e tribus corpusculis angulatis compositis
repletæ.

T h is very line species o f L yco p o d ium b elon g s to the same group with A. S e la g o ; and its nearest
affinity is stated by K u nth and W illd en ow to be L . Saunerus, a plant with which wc are unacquainted,
bu t o f which the figure given in Bo ry ’s V o y a g e almost exac tly resembles our plant.
It IS described, however, as h avin g the leaves in eigh t r ow s ; i n our plant the leaves are curiously
spirally twisted, o f a delicate pale green colour, not “ rubicundo-viridia',' as stated by Willdenow
and Kunth.
