th re e species. In his work, th e Ge»em P lm taT um , th ey a re figured o f th e n a tu ra l size in a very
satisfectoiy manne r, b u t in th e magnified repre senta tion th e a u th o r has completely failed, and,
indeed, does n o t appe a r to have seen, in any o f th e species, th e filament o f th e anthe r.
To those who ai-e' acqua inted w ith Mioheli's system, i t wifi be needless to m en tio n th a t this
acute observer mistook th e male fra c tific a tion for th e fema le ; ye t th e e rro r in to which he has
fallen has n o t prevented him from mak in g many in te re s tin g discoveries, re la tive to th e fruc tili-
cation o f th is genus o t plants, and such as seem to have escaped th e researches o t almost
every subsequent w rite r upo n th e subject.
