with our p lant. T h e Swedish author, however, appears to me to have confounded
with this th e J . Taylori of th is work, with which a p a rt of his description ap tly agrees,
« valde mollis vel spongiosa, e retículo laxiore facta,” which is by no means th e case with
J . Sphagni.

Th is is plentiful on Bu rg h Common, n e a r Yarmouth ; and Mr. Lyell finds a small b u t
elegant sta te o f th e p lan t a t Kinnordy, bearing calyces in August. T h e male fructification
resembles th a t of J . scalaris. I t is figured in Suppl. tab . i.
