Much as th is species is allied in general h ab it, anti in th e foliage, to J . scalaris and J. crenulata,
yet it may be a t once distinguished when in fructification, from the former, by th e exserted calyx,
and from the la tte r, by this pa rt b e in g entirely free from angles, and by th e four large te e th
a t its extremity. In the remarkably spherical shape of the capsule, i t differs from b o th ; and
equally from J . pumila, which is moreover a much smaller p lant, and has the calyx acuminate,
plicate, and toothed, n o t quadrifid.
VVe are indebted to Mr. LyeU fo r o u r first knowledge o f th is p lan t, which D r. Taylor soon
after discovered in Ireland.
