Stems scarcely exceeding ha lf an inch in length, ascending, filiform, waved, and, as fa r as 1
have yet seen, altoge the r simple; here and th e re , from the ir under side, th row ing out
small, simple, whitish, fibrous radicles.

and a t the ex trem ity ; iii. the fertile ones, largest towards the c a ly x ; o f an exactly
orbiculate figure, a little concave and d e cu rren t, mostly horizontally p a te n t; b u t
sometimes towards th e apex of th e p lan t erect. T h e ir color a pale green. T h e ir texture
de lic a te : reticulations small, roundish.
Pericheetial leaves g enerally more ovate, and always la rg e r th an the r e s t; otherwise th e same.

Calyx oblong, inc lin in g to obovate, having no angles, c u t a t the extremity into four large,
acute te e th o r segments. Color and texture nearly th e same as those of the leaves.

Calyptra ovate, reticulated.
Peduncle twice or thric e the length o f the calyx, white, pellucid, cellulose.
