Both Mohr and Wahlenberg consider this as merely a variety of J . hicuspidata, in
which opinion they may possibly be correct ; th o u g h th e re ticula tion is s trikingly different,
which did n o t escape the observation o f th e last-mentioned author.

T h is p lan t seems peculiar to northern latitudes. I t has never been found !n th e Alps,

Specimens o f this p lan t, which I have lately had the opportunity o f examining, have
satisfied me th a t it o u g h t lo en te r into this division; and, indeed, th e difference between it
and J . nemorosa is so slig h t, th a t 1 am almost inclined to consider i t a variety, though a
very rema rkable one, o f th a t species.

Dr. Mohr considers this species as a v ariety of J . resupinata, b ut to me it appears much
more allied to J . nemorosa, from which i t is scarcely to be distinguished, b u t by its smaller
size and serrated, not d enta to-c ilia te , leaves. Gemm® are n ot rare on this species in the
summe r months. T hey are o f an ovate and somewhat ang u la r figure, collected into an
