Mnium heteromallum, var. 2. With. 801.
COMMUNICATED by Mr. Winch, from banks near Gates-,
head, Durham. This is a species which has always caused us
some perplexity, on account of its near resemblance to D. hetero-
tnallum, t. 1272. The interrupted growth, or rather occasional
shortness of its leaves by intervals, is not so rigidly to be trusted
as the more ovate form of the capsule, and the smaller proportion
of the fringe. The leaves are broad at the base, then suddenly
contracted, roughish at the point; curled when dry.
