Autoicous ; densely cæspitose, i — 2 in. high, dull green or yellowish
above, blackish brown below. L e a v e s dense, secund, the upper often
fa lca te , lane.-subulate, glossy,, entire or slightly denticulate at ap e x ;
angular cells lax, few, flat, th e rest very narrow oblong. Perich. b ra cts
from an oblong sheathing base, subulate. C ap s , slightly exser ted on a
reddish-brown seta, erect, oval with a tap er in g neck, or subcernuous
and sligh tly asymmetr ic, ferruginous, 8— stria te when dry ; lid red,
obliquely conico-subulate ; annulus large ; te e th red, spreading
horizontally when dry, narrowly lanceolate-subulate, bifid or perforated.
Male infl. gemmiform, below the perichætium, b ra c ts ovate
a cuminate.

The foliage much resembles that of Blindia acnia, with which it was
confounded, but the angular cells are different and the fruit quite distinct.
