Autoicous ; densely tufted and radiculose, resemhling L . exstinctoria.
L e a v e s when w e t e re c to -p atent, when dry somewhat tw istin g, ovato
and oblongo-lanceolate or ligu la te , con ca v e a t base, fla ttish, nerve
rufescent, v anishing a t apex or excurrent in a mucro or yellowish hair,
upper margin crenulate w ith papillose c e lls, basal la x, hyaline or
rufescent, v ery narrow a t margin. Inner perich. b ra c ts shorter, oblong,
a ristate ; vaginula short, expanded a t apex like a p la te ; ca lyp tra straw-
coloured, sublacerate a t base, scabrous a t apex ; caps, narrowly ovate
or sub-cylindric, pa le fuscous with 8— 16 rufous e re c t striæ, when dry
deeply su lca te, with a h emispherica l hypophysis ; annulus simple, lid
convex, subulate, shorter than caps. ; teeth lan ceolate, remotely a r ticu late,
entire or perforated ; spores green, ver ruculose. Male infl. la teral,
b ra c ts ovate, shortly acuminate.

patulous, when dry la xly incumbent and incurved, from a clasping
diaphanous base, limbate with narrow cells, oblongo-Iingulate, muticous,
th e wings sometimes incurved a t apex and subcucullate, the cells
co a rse ly rotunda te and s tron gly papillose ; nerve rufous, prolonged to
apex, scabrous a t b ack. Pe rich. b ra c ts from an oblong concav e base,
suddenly acuminate, convo lute, erect. C a lyp tra v ery long, narrow,
cylin d ra ceou s, fuscescent, fimbriato-la cerate a t mouth, v ery rough at
a p e x ; caps, on a ta ll red seta, long, from ovate cylindraceous,
obliquely or sub-spirally oi’ang e-striate, when dry, cylin d ric , spirally
