Schimper recognized original specimens of Dickson’s B. paiicifolimn to
be this plant, yet he makes no reference to it in his publications, though
Mr. Carruthers has given a clear history of the species in his paper in Journ.
Bot. Dickson’s figure is very incomplete, and it is probable that he distributed
for B . paucifolium, other small mosses which resembled it. It is best
distinguished by the elongated capsule, which becomes darker and more
pyriform when old.
