 V  ERY  frequent in  all  kinds  of marfhy places,  particularly  
 on watery  fandy  heaths, where  it flowers  copioufly throughout  
 July and Auguft. 
 Root fibrous,  annual.  Stems  numerous,  upright,  forming  
 a  denfe  tuft,  round,  leafy,  forked  or  fomewhat  cymofe,  the  
 upper part of the branches  terminating in fimple rows of fefiile  
 upright flowers.  The whole  herb  is  fmooth,  and of  a  paler  
 hue than the  reft  of  its fpecies.  Leaves linear,  acute,  channelled  
 above,  dilated  at their bafe.  Calyx-leaves  lanceolate,  
 tapering to  a very  flender point,  green,  with  a  membranous  
 margin.  Bra&eas  pellucid.  Capfule  flender,  blunt,  ihorter  
 than the calyx,  three-celled..  Seeds very numerous. 
 We know not any good  reafon  for the fpecific name of  this  
 Juncus.  It is  generally found  in moifter fituations  than toads  
 for the moft part inhabit.
