Fhis fpeeies grows on fandy barren heaths, flowering from
June to Augud. Mr. W. Borrer favoured us with fpecimens.
1 he root is fibrous and perennial. Stems feveral, fpreading,
and taking root, leafy, fmooth, or rarely a. little pubefceiU.
Leaves oppofite, joined at the bafe, linear, tapering to a point,
tipped with a little bridle, and fringed with glandular hairs,
by which two lad marks this is certainly didinguilhed- from
S. Jugmoides, a plant otherwife greatly refembling it, but much
more rare. Flower-dalks terminal or axillary, folitary, long, more
or ieis clothed with glutinous, fliort hairs, as is likewiie the
C/ Y x- Petals obovate, obtufe, entire, white, the length of
the calyx. Stamina mod generally 5, fametimes 10 Capfule
ovate, fcarcejy_ exceeding the calyx in length, burding into 4
valves. Seeds minute, kidney-diaped, comprelfed, pale-brown,
encircled with a black line, but not with a dilated membranous
margin.
