Davalha, as it has been considered by most authors, constitutes a Section “ Davallieæ''
of Presi, mcluding four G e n e r a - I . Microlcpia, Pres], of which Davallia flaccida. Br.
(DicUoma polypodioides, Sw.), is an example ; 2. Saccohma, Kaulf., to which Davallia
f^ e llife r a , W a ll.-H o o k , et Grev. Ic. F.l. v. 2. t. 183, belong; 3. Stenolohus, including
Davallia solida, Sw. ; and 4. Davallia itself ; while Davallia contigua, Sw., and its allies,
are placed by the same author in a very different cohort, and next to Vittaria, under the
Genus Prosapiia, Presl.
Davallia, thus circumscribed, contains four groups, according to Brown and Presl The
