With this intelligence the spy immediately hastened to Wisnu, who
arrived at Suraldya when the gods were nearly, beaten, by the twenty-seven
sons of Wdtu Gunung. After this success, Wdtu Gknung approaching
Sam ydngGtiru, put the intended questions ,tp him. The latter^-referring
to Wisrm, they were immediately recognized by hjm,, on-jwfiic
nung attempted to escape, but was soon overtaken by WisnuT who laying
hold of one of his arms, while his son, Sri Gdti, held the, othfr, they soon
succeeded in putting him to death. As he expired a voice was heardby
Wisrm, saying, “ think not that it will end here.: hereaftef. trouble will
“ again arise in Suraldya, in the time of Baja Sumdli,. of the country .pf
“ Sela grwg’gmg, who will have a brother named M angM w n. Forget it
“ not.” . ;
When the twenty-seven sons of Wdtu Gunung heard of their father S' fate,
they wished to sacrifice themselves; but Wisnu disposed of them, as follows,
saying, “ let there be a sign to the world, of this victory. I wih once.; in
'% seven days put to death one of these twenty-seven, so that they.may .be
* killed in rotation.” The grief of Sinta. being excessive, she wept for
seven
seven days, and afterwards was received* into Suraîâya, and Wisnu added
her name, as well as those of Mef teister :and Wdtu Gûnung, to the twenty-
seven, and established the thirty wûku', ■ as everlasting signs, in commemoration
of this vifctory. . Trom the grief of Sinta for seven days, it is said that
*ain always falls during’thé wûku which bears h it'name.*
Then seizing; 'they Tepâteh and three assistants, who with Wdtu Gunung had
constituted thé- council, of-dye,! he declared that they should serve to commemorate

The two boys; when- thèy attained maturity, descended from Suraldya.
Mrdma Suddrga united in marriage with a female of the earth : from them,
in the third degree, were descended Raja Sumdli and Manglidrean. , Ifi the
reign of the latter of these a destructive war is stated to ) have taken plaice.
Mangliéwan laid waste Surdlaya and slew Sri Gdti, but afterwards,, when he
sbsWe'd a disüè to possess Sri, Wisnu exerted all.'his strength and put him
to death. As MangUdwan expired, Wisnu heard’ a voice saying unto him,

JDéwi, by whom he had a son, named Brdma Baja, who became Meja of
Indrapûri, and had a són named Chitra Bakdr or Angsdrwa, to whom, when
he became advanced in age, he delivered over charge of the country, pro-
eee ding-himself into the forests as a devotee, and assuming the name of Bést
Tdma.
