fhields or tubercles, in which the feeds are imbedded.
Spec. Char. Cruft green, granulated. Shields flat,
reddifh brown, with an inflexed, pale, lobed
border.

fandy p lace s. W e have received it from D r . B a b in g to n o f
L u d low , and from M r . D . T u rn e r . I t does not feem to be
confined to a n y pa rticu la r cou n try. I t s cruft is v ifib le enough
in the fo rm o f g re yifh green glo b u le s o r fc ale s, fpreading
ir re g u la r ly o ver moffes, or dead g raffes, and b e aring fm a ll
ft ra g g lin g fhields, whofe difk is flat o r con ve x , o f a pa le chefn ut
b row n , furrounded b y a lobed incurved border, w h ich w h en
yo u n g is fomew hat granulated and o f the colour o f the c ru ft,
b u t b y age it becomes o f a pale b row n , mo re cracked and
lefs g ranula ted. In this ftate th e fhields m igh t be taken for
old ones o f the L . marmoreus, did not an inveftigation o f both
plants in th e ir v arious ftages o f g row th render it impoflible to
confound th em .
