high and bearing several membranous hyaline sheaths 1 to 3 in. long. Leaves thickly
membranous, ovate-cordate, acutc, boldly 5-norved from the base, 2-5 to 4 in. long and
I'o to 2 iu. broad; the petiole diill purple, -o to 1 in. long, with a large sheath. Raceme
2- to 6-flowered. Fhwers nodding, inverted, -To in. long; floral hraci linear, about as
long as ihe shortly stalked ovaiy, withered at flowering tiiae. Sei^als free, sub-equal,
nan-owly oblong, spreading or recurved, the lateral pair apiculate. Petals like the
sepals but smaller, gibbous at the widest part. Lip parallel with and sessile on the
base of the footless column, elongate cuneate, S-lobed, with a short knob-like 3-lobcd
spur at the base; the lateral lobes narroiv, diverging, the edges ©rose; the terminal
lobe broad, retuse, its iipper snrface with 3 stou: spinc-Hke calli. Column long. Anther
short, broad, with two shia-t crimson horns. Pollinia unequal, cohering in fours by a

The flowfrs are green striped with purple, the lip and column being pale yellow.
The leaves are green, suffused with pale and mottled with dull purple, they have also a
broad streak of the same coloui- down the centre.

Terrestrial or epiphytal, with or without pseudo-bulbs, usually of large size. Lewes
membranous, usually pHcate. Fhtoers hand.some, in a raceme from a scape rising from
the base of the stem or pseudo-lralb, or from the axil of a leaf or at the apex of the
arem. Sep tls and petals sub-equal, erecto-patent, rarely spreading. Lip adnata to the
base of the long footless column, erect, gibbous or spurred. Ani/tor incompletely 4-cellcd.
Pollinia attached by fours to a granular membrane. Spocies about tliirty, natives
of the tropics of Asia and of the Pacific.

Rhizome stout, pseudo-bulbs none. Sims only an inch or two long. Leaves narrowly
elliptic or oblong, lanceolate, acuminate, narrowed to the long petiole, the lower ono
often sheath-like; length 12 to 15 in., breadth 1-5 to 3 in.; petiole winged, 2 to
5 in. long. Scape from the base of the stem, erect, G to 9 in. long, bearing several
wide scatt°ered sheaths about 1 in. in length, aud at its apex a 2- to 3-flowered raeeme.
Flowers 2o in. long; the hract large, lanceolate, cymbiform, about as long as the
stalked ovary. Sepals and petals sub-equal, narrowly oblong, acuminate, spreading. Lip
nearly orbicular when spread out, obscurely 3-lobcd, the base with a slender spur only
about -25 in. long; the side lobes small, rounded; the middle lobe plicate, its terminal
lobule broad and emarginate, its upper surface faintly nerved, puberulous. Column
short, puberulous. Antkar short, broad. Pollinia 8.
In the Western Duars of Bhutan, east of the Jaldacca river, at an elevation oí
500 feet; Pantling No. 433 ; in flower in Febniary.
A species at once recognised by its dwarf habit.

Pseudo-hdhs ovoid-cylindric, naked, 4 to 5 in. long, and 2 to 2'7ó in. in diam.
near the base. Stem 16 to 24 in. high. Leaves four to sis, stoutly membranous, ellipticlanceolate,
acuminate, many-nerved, plicate, tapering to the petiole, J4 to 20 in. long
and 3 to 4 in. broad, often spotted with yellowish-white. Scape from the base of the
pseudo-bulb, 12 to 18 in. long, bearing several sub-tiibular broadly lanceolate sheaths;
the raceme many-flowered, rather crowded. Flowers 2'2o in. long; Iract rather large,
broadly lanceolate, longer than the shortly pedicclled ovary. Sepals sub-equal, oblong,
obtuse, concave. Petals oblong-oblanceolate. Lip erect, oblong, concave, with a sharp
spur at the base, side lobes narrow; terminal lobe deflexed, conchiform, its edges
corrugated. Column without a foot, sparsely hairy in front. Pollinia 8, broad, compressed,
attached in groups of four to two membranes. Capsule globose-ovoid, ribbed,
