The prevailing colour iji the flowers (whi(;h are very sweet-scented) is pure white.
The ridge on the hp is, however, of a brilliant yellow, aud there is a patch of the
same colour on the apical lobe, wlñle the column is tinged with pink.

Epiphytic, without pseudo-bulbs and with veiy short stems. Leaves coriaceous, flat.
Injlorescence from the side of the stem, or axillary, erect or pendulous. Flowers usually
largo, in loose racemes. Sepals and petals widely spreading. Lip clawed or sessile,
adnate to the base or foot of the column, not spurred, more or lesa lobed, the side
lobes erect, the apical lobe various; disc variously appendaged, usually with a forked
])Iate or callus. Column sub-orect, with or without a foot. Anther 2-celled. Pollima
2, obovoid, sulcate or bipartite, attached by a linuar or spathulate caudicle to a large
or small glaud. Specics about 32; Indian or Malayan.

Leaves broadly-elliptic, minutely and obliquely notched at the apex, 3 to 5 in.
long and 1-25 to 1-75 in. broad. Eaceme shorter than the loaves, 4- to 6-flowered, erect.
Flowers "8 to 1 in. across ; bract elliptic, blunt, much shorter than the stalked ovary.
Sepals sub-cijual, orbicular-ovate, sub-acute. Pctah smaller than the sepals, oblong-obovato,
very bhiui;. Lip as long as the sepals, jomted, mobile, reniform, its lateral mai-gins
iuflexed, bearing on its base a semi-circular cro.sc flat disc with two supeqioscd processes
on its surface, each divided from about the middle iuto two awns. Column short, the
base nmch dilated and with two large oblong erect basal lobes; rostellum long and
narrow. Anther depressed. Pollinia obovoid-elliptic, attached by an elongated tapering

Sikkim, in the valley of the Teesta, up to elevations of 1,200 feet, common ; In
flower dining March and April; PantHng, No. 74. Bhutan, Cachar and Tenasserim, also
in some jiaits of the Malayan Archipelago.
The form of tliis specics wliich occurs in Sikkim is that which has been figured in
Saunders' Eefugium, t. 85, as var, J.ohhii. It differs from the typical form only in
having a white lip with two chestnut band.?, whereas the typical form has ametliyst
bands. Tlie rest of tlie flower is pui-e white, with the exception of the colimin which
has a dash of yellow and two brown spots.

Leaves oblong-oblanceolate, obtuse, but with an abrupt minute apicidus, taperiug to
the sessile base, length 5 to 14 in., 2 to 4 in. wide at the widest part. Raceme about as
long as the leaves, pendulous, sometimes branched, laxly many-flowered. Flowers 1 to
1'25 iu. iu diam.; braci ovate-lanceolate, acute, much shorter than the long-stalked ovary.
Sepals unequal; the dorsal oblong, acute; the lateral broadly oblanceolate, sub-acute.
Petals shorter than the sepals, oblong, acute, falcato. Lip shorter than the petals, adnate
to the base aud short foot of the column ; tho hypochile with two large erect truncate
counivent lobes ; mesocliilo with an ercct 2-lobcd callus situated at the baso of the claw
of the epichile ; epicldle broadly sagittate, the lobules wide-sjn'eading, erose ; the disc with
a flattened sword-shaped appendage iu front of the two awns, and the epicliile with a
few backward-directed seta^. Cohann with a short two-homed foot; rostellum much
elongated. Anther broad. Pollinia obovoid-elliptic, attached by a loug flat tapering
caudicle to a small oblong glaud. Capsule 4 in. long, narrowly clavate-ollipsoid, with six
