Sikkim, at elevations between 4,000 and 6,000 feet; in flower dining October and
November, common; Pantling, No. 12. Westward to Kinnaou and eastward to Bhutan.
K b a s i a Hills; elevation 4,000 to 5,000 feet.
T h e flowers of this have a ground colour of ochraeeous yellow with numerous
vertical lines of warm brown, the lip having broad transverse blotches of the same tint,
e x t e r n a l l y tlio sepals are flushed witli green. In habit and leaves the species much
resembles 0. grmdijlomm ; but the flowers are smaller, iliffercntly coloin-ed and appear
much later in the year. In the flgin-e of this in Bot. Mag., No. 4844, tho flowers are
colom-ed by far too green.

O c t o b e r ; Pantling, No. 299.
T h e colour- of the flowers in this species is a dirty yellow flushed with brown and
w i t h brown lines ; the Hp, however, is of a brighter yellow aud ' has brown lines on its
side lobes. Individuals with flowers of a paler yellow are, however, very common, aud
these have usually densely-flowered racemes like C. elegans, Blume; while the plants with
d i r t y yellow flowers have lax racemes suggestive of those of C. lonyifoliim, Don. This
species, although common in Sikldm, has hitherto remained unnamed. It has been
suggested that it may possibly be a natural hybrid between C. gigantetm and C. ekgans,
as its flowers combine the cliaracters of these species. It is dedicated to Mr. J. A.
Gammie, Deputy Superintendent of tlie Government Cinchona Plantation in Sikkim, whoso
work in the culti^'ation of the medicinal species of Cinchona and in the local manufacture
of Quiuine is so well known and so Iiighly appreciated. The species is allied to
C. Mastersii, Benth. and to C. afine, "Wurn.
