The sepals of this arc reddish-brown, the lip being of a dai-ker tint. The odour

Bhizome naked, -1 in. tliick; pseudo-bulbs ovoid, -65 to l'2a in, long, slightly curved,
often with much elongated apices and about 1 in. apart, Liaf narrowly obloag,
sub-acute, obliquely notched, taperiug to the sessile or sub-scssile base, l"7o to 3"25
in. long and -35 to -45 in. broad. Scape equal to or somewhat exceeding the
ir, the pedicel with several lancBolata bracts. Flowers -75 to 1 in long,
s to twelve in a radiating umbel; floral bract lanceolate, acuminate,
nearly as long as the rather long stalked ovary. Dorsal fepal free from the lateral
pair at its base, oblong-ovate, obtuse; lateral sepals four or five times as long as
the dorsal, linear-oblong, acute, at first cohering except at the base and apex,
but usually separating ultimately, entire. J?ctals about as long as the dorsal sepal,
spreading, broadly elliptic, falcate, very obruse. Lip about as long as the dorsal
sepal, oblong, tapering from a slightly dilated grooved base to a sub acute apex,
entii-e, decurvod from the middle. Col •am with naiTow wings and erect triangular

The dursal sepal and petals are of a deep violet colour with spots of a still
darker shade of the same colour; the lateral sepals are of a pale brown, the column
and lip brownish purple.

Hkizoms very long, branching, "15 in. thick, with remote tubular sheatha; pseudobulbs
obloiJg-cylindric. copper-coloured, smooth, 1 to 2 in, long and 1*5 to 8 in, apart.

Leaf coriaccous, elliptic-oblong, the apex blunt and minutely emarginate, the base
slightly narrowed, sessile or very slightly petiolate; length 3 to 4 in,, breadth -5 to
1"25 in. Scape very short, only about as long as the pseudo-bulb, with a large sh<Sath at
the base. Floivers -75 in. long, dorsally depressed, in short racemes of 6 to 12; floral
bract more than half as long as the stalked ovary, linear, acute, spreading, curved,
3-ncrved. Dorsal sepal ovate-oblong, acute, 5-nerved, the lateral pair two or three
times as long as the dorsal, oblong-lanceolate, bluntly acuminate, 7-nerved, cohering
except at the lips. Petals broadly ovate, strongly 3-nervod, the anterior half of each
densely ciliate, the apex obtuse. Lip about as long as the petals, ovate-oblong, blunt,
deflexcd fi'om the middle, less tumid than usual in the genus. Column stout, minutely

their inner edges to fonn a sub-pandmiform blade, sHghtly biiid at the apex; the
edges entu-o and the upper surfaces smooth. Petals oblong, neai-ly as long as tlie dorsal
sepal, sHghtly falcate, obtuse. Lip oblong, entire, sub-acuto, the base dilated, the
upper sm-face shghtly concave. Column broad, winged, and with minute erect apical
teeth; its foot rather long, much cm-vcd and with a callosity at its union with the

Tho flowers, which last only for a single day, are rose red, with spots of a
darker tint. They aro of rather a coriaceous toxtm-e, and are much compressed
dorsally. The whole plant is flushed with a coppery hue.
