tapermg to both base and apes, each obliquely sessile on an elongate gland, ti-uncate at
both ends, Slmimdti smooth, ovate, falcate, pointed, situated outside the bases of the
anther-cells. SHjim two, broadly oblong, somewhat curved, situated one on each side
of the wide entrance to the spur.

Plant varying in height from 3 to 13 inches. Stem, slender, sheathed at the base
tuUn narrowly fusiform. Ltaf nsuafly solitary, oblong-oblanceolate, obtuse or acute'
nan-owed to the shortly sheathed base; length -1 to 4-5 in., breadth -35 to 1-5 in'.
Stem above the leaf and below tile raceme with at least one linear-lanoeolato acuminate
bmct, ridged. Spik l-o to 4 in. long, laxly-flowered. Mow«; -4 in. across at the
mouth (vertically); jloml h-acts linear-lanceolate, acuminate, herbaceous, the lower much
longer than the flowers, the upper snb-eqiuil to them. Sepah thin, their edges minutely
ciliolate, sub-equal, elliptic-oblong, sub-acute; the dorsol sepal and petals connivent
to form a hood, the lateral pair reflexed. Petah fleshy like the lip, as long as the
sepals, ovale with broad truncate bases and somewhat gibbons at one side, sub-acute.
Lip longer than the sepals and petals, ovate-lanceolate, blunt, enth-e, its margins slightly
optunied near the base; ¡¡mr about as long as tlie ovary, cylindric, with two faint
ridges externally, slightly widor towards the apex, its interior shortly hispid. Colmim
broad at the base, tapering upwards. Anikr-ctlk discrete, parallel, without tubes;
poUkia clavate, sessile, the glands as long as the polhnia, nai-row, truncate at each
end; stmimdet large, globose; itigims two, globose, pointed.

below the raccmo lanceolate, acuminato, nearly 1 in. long. Sj'Hcc 3 to 10 in. long,
laxly-flowered, its pcdunclo short. Flowers to '5 in. across ; Jloml iiracl lanceolate,
acuminate, somewhat longer than the ovary. Sepals miequal, glabrous or ciliolate; the
dorsal concave, broadly ovate, orbicular or obloug; tlio lateral pair narrower, ovaio
or ovate-lanceolate, sub-acute, reflexed. Petals as long as the lateral sepals, spreading,
fleshy, with broad tiiangular bases and blmitly acuminate apices, varying to lanceolate
or linear, gibbous at the base on one side. Lip longer than the petals, sub-terete or
linear-oblong, tapering slightly to the apes, entii-e, the base with a short broad claw ;
the spur slender, cylincliic, laterally compressed, cuiTed, longer than the cuiwcd slightly
beaked ovary. Colunm short. Anthir-cclls parallel, distant, each with a sub-globidar
rugulosc staminode on its outer side near the base; the tubes short, curved forwards;
polUnia pyiiform, tapering into short stout caudicles; the glands small, elliptic. Stifjmas
two, oblong, blunt, separated by the entrance into the spur. Capsule sessile, fusiform,

The sepals of this plant in Sikkim are grcen, as is the bract; and the petals and
lip arc of u greenish-yellow. The species is a very common and variable one. In the
north-west Himalaya the leaves are occasionally almost orbicular; the lip varies in
widtli from linear to hinceolato but its edges are always reflexed. A small form is
common in Sikkim.
